From. the moment we are conceived we grow and we change. With modern technology is it possible to know what a baby looks like before it is born. Often these images are the first treasured visions of the life we have created. From that moment, there will be days in our lives worthy of celebration. For every transition, transformation or transmutation, there is a ceremony. Some of these days worth celebrating include…
As a mother to be, a Blessingway is performed around eight months into the pregnancy. It uses symbolism and the ritual may use, red thread, henna belly, belly mask or beads.
As an experience, it can take hours.
The transition from child to woman is known as Menarche. It marks the first occurrence of menstruation.
Identifying as Female is also a day worthy of celebration.
Any transformation which helps define who you are and want to be deserves a ceremony that can be created to acknowledge this..
In some communities, boys becoming men is marked by a period of walkabout or independent growth where they learn to fend for themselves. As we have little opportunity to do this in quite the same way, marking the arrival of puberty in a male can be designed in ceremony using symbolism.
Identifying as Male is a day to be worthy of celebration. Any transformation which helps define who you are and want to be deserves a ceremony that can be created to acknowledge this.
Customs and traditions vary within families. For some, the coming of age is 18, for others 21. It is often a time marked by giving a key to the door. There is significance and meaning in these days as they mark a transition of independence into adulthood.
I think of these as Summit Days, days where a flag is planted somehow to acknowledge this part of life as a success.
There comes a time when every woman no longer has the capacity to bear children. It may be a challenging and difficult transition for many but as with the ending of something so there is a new beginning. Mourning the transition and welcoming the new can be a time for a woman to celebrate another stage in her life.
When a family, or an individual, moves into a property, in the period between the packing boxes leaving through the door and the next set arriving, there is, for a space in time, an emptiness which can leave the house soulless and pervading a sense of abandonment. There is a shift in energy and expectation as the old family leaves and the new occupants arrive. It is an unsettled time for all. Feelings of loss for those who leave or for those who arrive, maybe mixed with excitement or trepidation. A house blessing or warming may reset the intention or energy within the home so the present dwellers maybe settled and happy for as long as they remain in occupancy.
Divorce healings. Untying the knot can be just as significant as tying the knot. For those who want to undo the vows they made and free themselves to live separate lives once more.
Sometimes we are left with things at the end of a relationhip which were once meaningful such as a wedding ring, but after the symbol has lost its purpose, there can be a feeling of loss and insecurity. Burying something, such as a wedding ring, can bring closeure and certainty.
The idea of retirement for some can be a daunting and significant event in the life of someone who has given many years of service to their career, their company or their community. As a celebration, like so many, it marks and end but also an new beginning and can be marked by ritual and ceremony.
I have many tools available to assist in the creation of both a ceremony and a sacred space. To me symbolism is significant.
As well as my drums, rattles, fans, I have oracle cards, crystals, ogham sets, and sprays created by Angelic Celestian Colours
Almost anything which comes to hand, or mind, may also be used to enhance any occasion.
There are those special days which are worthy of celebration with words to mark them, but which don't need me in attendance.
I would be deligthed to help compose some words for you and your special day.
